WDR Equipment Maintenance

Maximize Dehumidifier Performance

Dri-Eaz has issued a bulletin regarding maintenance of their dehumidifiers which is applicable to some degree to other manufacturer units as well. These include:
  1. Inspect the electrical cord for damage. Look for fraying, cuts, etc.
  2. Inspect the inlet filter. If dust and dirt are visible, vacuum out the debris. Do not wash the filter as it will reduce the effectiveness of the electrostatic materials.
  3. Replace the filter whenever it has been vacuumed cleaned three times or has been used on a mold remediation job.
  4. Inspect the filter cover (this can be done without removing the filter housing). Vacuum off visible dirt or wash with mild soap and water. Let dry and put back into place.
  5. Unplug the unit and remove the housing. Inspect the coils (allow to dry if wet), catch basin, float shaft and drain hose. Clean coils when visibly dirty. Dirty coils can cause the unit to overheat.
  6. Vacuum both sides of the coils until clean. Be careful not to let the nozzle touch the fins as that may cause damage by bending them.
  7. Remove dirt with an aluminum evaporator coil comb available from a refrigeration supply outlet. Follow product directions. If a sticky oily residue remains on the coils, use a squirt bottle to flush the coil using a small amount of detergent.
  8. Check the catch basin. Wipe clean with a cloth.
  9. Check the drain hose. Look for obstructions. Disconnect and clean any debris present. Reattach the drain hose. Make sure the O-ring on the quick disconnect is still in place.
  10. Inspect the pump system. Dri-Eaz has an online resource at http://www.dri-eaz.com. Select "Parts/Service," then "Repairs."

Todd says, "The Duct Tape Mobile rides again, but this year I got a sign!
